I love everything about this 1953 home from the great roofline on the single story section to the modular look of the two story section. The house is situated on a large corner lot which afforded lots of opportunities to view all its interesting shapes from various perspectives.

Holiday Terrace Motel - Hilliard, Florida
US 1 - This cute little motel is located near Hilliard. I was compelled to make a u-turn and go back to snap a couple of pictures. I was drawn in by what was probably once a much cooler sign. I like the trio of poles holding up the right side and the interesting shape it has. The motel is your standard u-shaped affair. It probably had a pool in the middle but I can't remember if that still existed or if it had been filled in as they have been at many old motels. On the motel itself I like the stacked (as opposed to staggered) block construction and the banded stonework framing the windows.

Apopka Plaza - Apopka, Florida
511 South Orange Blossom Trail (US441) - The shopping center itself is nothing to look at but the sign is groovy. I had this on a list of places that I wanted to see on my recent trip but I didn't know exactly were it was. Fortunately, I happened across it completely by accident.
Back From Vacation
Well, I've been back from vacation in Florida for almost a week and just realized that my pre-scheduled post ran out on the 15th. Luckily I have tons of new pictures to post as I made a concentrated effort to get out on the less travelled roads and visit some new places on this trip. Not that I needed any pictures, I have tons that have not yet been posted. There will certainly be a lot more Florida posts coming up though, with all this new material.

Condominium - Atlanta, Georgia
100 Alden Avenue NW - I love it when a simple wrong turn winds up revealing wonderful things as was the case with this 1960 building. I love the roof line and the wonderful wooded ravine lot in which the building sits.

Condominiums - Cocoa Beach, Florida
2020 North Atlantic Avenue - Seeing as how these are separated from the road by a terribly long carport, I'm guessing it must have been the decorative screens at the end of the carport that sucked me in. You know I can't resist a decorative screen! There were all kinds of great things about this 1964 structure including the balcony railings, more decorative screen covering what is probably a stairwell and a fantastic butterfly canopy at the entrance to a covered walkway leading to the buildings from the parking area. The site consists of a pair of 6 story buildings with 96 units apiece set in symmetrical fashion stretching from the parking area back towards the pool and recreation are and eventually to the Atlantic Ocean.
Screen at the end of the carports that sucked me into the property.
Butterfly canopy (but please remove that hideos security light in the middle and find something more appropriate).

McDonough Welcome Center - McDonough, Georgia
5 Griffin Street - According to the official website, the McDonough Welcome Center is housed in "a 1920’s prototype Standard Oil Station, located in the heart of historic downtown, to appreciate the charm and vitality of our city." Using former gas stations as Welcome Centers seems very popular in Georgia as I have come across several others. They all seem very quaint.

Franklin Park Pharmacy - Columbus, Ohio
1829 East Long Street - Formerly the Franklin Park Pharmacy, this 1962 structure was sitting and waiting for someone to love it when I shot these last May.
A bit overgrown, the building sits on an inclined corner lot with steps leading up to the front door from two different streets.
Lots of stone and glass.
Stacked block wall.
Love this sconce light that was over the basement door.

Comfort Furniture - Cocoa, Florida
3633 US Highway 1 - This was a place with some neat aspects that is in desperate need of some TLC to bring it back to its 1963 glory.
Here you can see wires dangling from the overhang where lights should be.
Roof rail detail on the lower side portions of the building.
