United Methodist Church - Wawaka, Indiana
7328 North Albion Street - The original church building (which is buried under additions and new facades) was built circa 1881. The church was remodeled in 1928-29 after being struck by lightning. An addition was made in 1953. The building finally came to resemble its current incarnation with remodels and additions begun in 1961 which included adding the current facade and entrance and reversing the direction of the chancel. The church features some very nice art glass windows.
Originally, this all faced the other direction.
These 60's light fixtures are fabulous and I would love to get my hands on them if the church is ever remodeled or torn down.
A much earlier view of the church.

Commercial Building - Zolfo Springs, Florida
Corner of Oak and 6th Streets - I took this picture last September. According to the Hardee County website this location is a vacant lot so perhaps this building has been demolished. This building was in bad shape but had some beautiful details.

Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace - Hodgenville, Kentucky
2995 Lincoln Farm Road - There are two Lincoln historic sites in this general area. On the day I stopped at this one I was already halfway through day two of what was supposed to be a one day roadtrip (to many stops to take pictures) so I did not visit the other. This was a great diversion. It was a little off the path but worth it. It was quiet, beautiful and not terribly busy. Pop over to the National Park Service site for more info on this destination. There is a visitor center that looks like it was probably built in the sixties, the 1911 Memorial Building housing a log cabin replica, the Sinking Spring, and the Nancy Lincoln Inn featuring displays and gifts for sale.

Bilmar Beach Resort - Treasure Island, Florida
10650 Gulf Boulevard - Circa 1966, this place seemed to have some groovy elements. Again only a couple of quick pics as I zoomed by. I could probably do without the rainbow of colors.

The Hair Affair - Rome, Georgia
220 Glenn Milner Boulevard - I was immediately interested in this circa 1955 building when I spotted it after taking a wrong turn. The mid-century shape instantly caught my eye. While doing research for this post I came across a photo of it before it reached it's current state. I liked the current condition of the building until I saw what it had originally looked like.
2010 photo.
Before the remodel (date unknown). I prefer the cubed facade over the stuccoed facade of the newer version but I suppose it is preferable to the building having been demolished.
