Carpenter's Way - Completed in 1929 as a home for retired carpenters. I was very excited when I was taken here as a surprise a couple of days ago because I thought this building no longer existed. I was not disappointed. So many fantastic elements which I'm guessing will end up at the business end of a wrecking ball. Check out a couple of pictures from the 20's here.

4800 Hollywood Boulevard - 1917-1921. Along with the Los Angeles textile block houses, this is the Frank Lloyd Wright house that has always fascinated me the most. Resembling a Mayan temple it sits atop Olive Hill looking down on Hollywood Boulevard. The home was constructed for Aline Barnsdall and the property was to originally include a theater and other facilities for the arts and residences for artists. While a couple of the other buildings for the project were realized, the entire project was never fully developed.

Lake Ariana Blvd - The original part of the house seems to date from 1926 but there have clearly been multiple additions over the years. I'd been meaning to stop and take some photos of this home for some time and finally got around to it today while there for a portrait shoot. The home is currently for sale and hopefully won't be torn down so the rather large parcel of land can be developed.

2366 Kenny Road - Circa 1910. While this building still shows up on Google street view, it is no longer visible in the Satellite view leading me to believe it's been demolished. I'm not sure what this building originally was. It kind of has the look of a school but due to its proximity to rail lines perhaps it was a factory or warehouse of some kind. Even in the advanced stages of decay here (from May 2009) it still displays a beauty rarely seen in newer structures.

Canal Point is an unicorporated agricultural community. Driving through it also seemed almost uninhabited as well. I felt that posting these pictures as a unit instead of as individual building posts seemed appropriate in this case. Overall the place seemed to have a very ghost town feel about it.

This old gas station sits at the corner of Old Connors Highway and Everglades Street.

1340 East High Street - Frank Lloyd Wright's Westcott House is a gorgeous Prairie Style home. I lived not far away in Columbus for five years and was frequently in the Springfield area but never made it to this home until right before I moved out of state. I'm glad I did. All pictures are of the exterior as interior photos are forbidden. If you're in the area I recommend stopping by for a tour. Check the Westcott House website for further information.

This building would be one of those. The two pictures I have were actually taken from the roof of The Judson which butts up against this building. The art deco Title Insurance Building was contstructed in 1928 and designed by John & Donald Parkinson. The front of the structure has some lovely details that can be seen on Google Maps Streetview.
