326 West Central Avenue - Winter Haven has done a lot of work to restore its downtown over the past several years. As a result, downtown is much cleaner and nicer than for many years prior. The downside to this is that the area has also been made very generic. Many of the buildings' details have been dulled or eradicated. On this particular building for most of its life there was a great four-sided clock which stuck out from the corner of the building. I know this clock hadn't worked for many years and I suppose that's why it was removed. building doesn't look bad, it's just that in the larger context downtown seems kind of homogenized these days.
For whatever reason, I never get so consumed by hatred of Winter Haven as when we go downtown. If life is just about living in the hood and commuting to Orlando several days a week, I don't have to think much about it. Having a purpose, like shopping or going to visit Grandma when she was alive, is worthwhile, but I cannot tolerate time focused on the specifics of Winter Haven itself. Nevertheless, the lakes are beautiful and I liked the park where you and I picnicked. Too bad Cypress Gardens closed, because I did take pride in it.
