Kaufmann House - Palm Springs, California

470 West Vista Chino - This 1946 masterpiece was designed by Richard Neutra for Edgar J. Kaufmann who owned Kaufmann's Department Store.  Edgar J. Kaufmann is also notable for commissioning another famous piece of architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater in Pennsylvania.  For more about Richard Neutra visit here.  With a little digging you can find some great photos and renderings.

Edris House - Palm Springs, California

1030 West Cielo Drive - This 1954 residence was built for Marjorie and William Edris.  It was designed by E. Stewart Williams.  The house almost disappears into the landscape due to its coloring and materials.  Check out some other photos of the house here.

Palevsky House - Palm Springs, California

I think for the next several posts I'll focus back in on Palm Springs.  Many of the photos in these posts were taken while riding around on a tour so the quality may not be as great as would be desired.

1021 West Cielo Drive - This 1968 residence was built for Max Palevsky and designed by Craig Ellwood.  Dig that huge boulder to the left of the house.

The Castle - Atlanta, Georgia

87 15th Street - This interesting building is currently on the market for $2.2 million.  Here's the description from the real estate listing - "Located in the heart of Midtown overlooking Atlanta's Arts Center Complex, the Castle is one of the city' s most architecturally unique buildings with stunning Midtown Atlanta views. The structure is very cool but in bad shape.  It would make a very interesting restaurant with it's great terraces, numerous rooms and many levels.  As you can see, the lower level is like a fortress leading up to the more decorative upper floors.

Engine House # 12

734 Oak Street - Engine House #12 was built in 1896.  I'm not sure when it ceased to be used as a fire station but it was most recently the Columbus Music Hall.

Royal York Apartments - Columbus, Ohio

1445 East Broad Street - The Royal York Apartments is a beautiful Art Deco apartment building dating from 1938. This building simultaneously make me think of a cruise ship and the apartment building from Ghostbusters.

Kent Hotel - Miami Beach, Florida

1131 Collins Avenue - Another great hotel from Miami Beach. This one dates from 1939 and was designed by Lawrence Murray Dixon.

Ill placed signs, streetlights and trees always annoy me.
