Building - Howie In The Hills, Florida

217 West Central Avenue - This facade seems like a mass of oddities.  It looks like it's currently housing.  I'm very curious what this building might have looked like and what its purpose was when it was built.

My House - Columbus, Ohio - Part Three

The master bedroom featured three walls in chocolate brown and one in blue venetian plaster.

No walk-ins but two large closets provided ample storage.

The master bath was small but after a complete gutting and several thousand dollars it was very stylish.

The largest of the other bedrooms was the most traditional room in the house.

The second of the bedrooms featured vintage barcloth drapes, Heywood Wakefield headboard and side table and a tiki theme.

Anyone fancy a game of Pachinko?

The home also featured another bedroom which I used as an office and was decorated with vintage Disney Tomorrowland art and other retro-future items.  The closet in that room was turned into a built in desk, maximizing the space in the room.  Both of these photos are from when the room was still a work in progress.  There is still no built in desk and there ended up being more shelves for a lot more vinyl records and books.

My House - Columbus, Ohio - Part Two

Dining room.  The wall of drapes parted to reveal the sliding glass door to the screen porch.

Cocktail, anyone?

Kitchen.

Beautiful Sputnik chandelier.  Past the table and below is our next destination, the family room.

Plush chocolate brown shag carpet and beautiful grasscloth wallpaper combined with red silk drapes and other luxurious textiles to offer a calming and comfortable retreat from the stresses of the day.  At the back of the room on the right is a powder room.

Keeping the original lavender fixtures and adding new tile and accents updated the main upstairs bath.

My House - Columbus, Ohio - Part One

Barberry Lane - I've been meaning to post these for awhile.  This was my house in Columbus when I lived there (I've lived in Georgia and Florida since then).  These are the results of four years of hard work to transform the house into a warm and inviting retro haven.  We had hoped to send pictures in to Atomic Ranch magazine but never got around to it before we moved.  FYI, if you like mid-century homes and design you should definitely check the magazine.

The rear of the house with its fantastic trees, screened porch, and two-level patio.

This is from before the house was painted but it's the only photo showing the other end of the house and the way the roofline juts out to a point.

Patterned block wall.

Replaced the heavy wooden front doors with these glass ones and what a difference.

The wonderful stone wall of the entry (and fireplace in the living room) were one of the things that sold us on the house.  The great slate floors were another.

Bullet planter.

Up the steps to the Living Room.

Looking back towards the Foyer.

Lovely bay window and fireplace.

More to come...
