Ferguson Mansion - Louisville, Kentucky

1310 South Third Street - Built between 1902 and 1905.  Home to the Filson Historical Society.

Jefferson County Courthouse - Louisville, Kentucky

527 West Jefferson Street - This Greek Revival structure was designed by Gideon Shryock.  Services moved into the building in 1842 but it remained unfinished for years afterward.

Women's Club - Hodgenville, Kentucky

Public Square - Built in 1934 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The building is currently and has always been used as the home for the Hodgenville Women's Club. From the National Register Registration Form:

The Women's Club is a one-story, stone veneer, three bay, rectangular

plan building constructed in 1934 with Colonial Revival influences. The

majority of the exterior veneer is of sandstone with limestone used as

decorative features and highlights. The building has a concrete and stone

foundation, gable roof of composition shingles, and an exterior end stone

chimney.

On the main (north) facade is an original entrance with a six-panel glass

and wood door and four light sidelights. This entrance is recessed within

a large arched opening in the gabled central bay of the building. Windows

on the main facade are arched multi-light metal casement design with

limestone surrounds. At the corners of the building are limestone quoins.

The building rests on a raised basement which has multi-light wood

windows. At the rear of the building is a one-story brick wing which was

built ca. 1850 and was part of the original building on this site. Only

the brick walls of this wing remain and the interior was remodeled during

the 1934 construction.

The interior retains its original floor plan and detailing and includes

Colonial Revival influenced mantles and decorative door surrounds.

The building is sited on an urban lot on the public square in

Hodgenville. On the north, west, and east facades is an original stone

retaining wall which is included as a contributing structure. At the

southwest corner of the fence on the main facade is an original monument

consisting a small iron cannon. This monument is included as a

contributing object.

Leadership Louisville Foundation - Louisville, Kentucky

730 West Main Street - It never ceases to amaze me that they used to make things that look like this.  This kind of detail is just not seen anymore (and if it is, it's not this well done).

Gatehouse Tavern - Fort Mitchell, Kentucky

2477 Royal Drive - I'm guessing that I had exited of the Interstate here back in 2009 for gas or food and happened to spot this charming little castle.

Whiteside Bakery - Louisville, Kentucky

1400 West Broadway - This great 1908 mission revival industrial building was designed by Arthur Loomis.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.  I love the level of design that used to go into buildings of all uses.  It's very doubtful you would see that much work go into a building of similar use today.

River City Bank - Louisville, Kentucky

500 South Sixth Street - While trying to get some information on this building I came across this great article at Broken Sidewalk showing that hidden just beneath this newer facade is a much older building ready to re-emerge from its cocoon.  The original Mammoth Life building designed by Joseph & Joseph architects is circa 1925.  I'm not sure what year the current facade was added.

Louisville & Nashville Railroad Office Building - Louisville, Kentucky

908 West Broadway - Beaux Arts office building built in two phases.  The original part of the building was completed in 1907 with a matching addition in 1930.  Currently home of Health and Family Services.

Fire Station #2 - Louisville, Kentucky

617 West Jefferson Street - Built in 1891 this Richardsonian Romanesque fire station was designed by the McDonald Brothers.

Union Station - Louisville, Kentucky

1000 West Broadway - The imposing 1889-1891 Union Station building now serves as the offices for TARC.  It was designed by F.W. Mowbray.
