951 Chicago Avenue - Frank Lloyd Wright lived and worked here from 1889 to 1909.  These pictures are all from a visit back in July 2005.  Visit the official site.

Regenstein's Department Store - Atlanta, Georgia

209 Peachtree Street NE - Now home to Hooters, among other things, is this beautiful Art Deco building dating from 1930 and designed by Pringle & Smith. 

The first two pictures are by Taylor Gentle and the second two by me.  All are from July 2009.

Park Inn Hotel - Mason City, Iowa

There's not much for me to say about this Frank Lloyd Wright hotel that isn't covered in the photos below of the hotel windows.  When I learned about the existence of the hotel last fall I asked my sister, Michelle,  if she would go by and snap some pictures since she lives nearby and she was kind enough to send me these.  Check out the restoration here.

Georgia Department of History and Archives - Atlanta, Georgia

Capitol Avenue - The Georgia Department of History and Archives dates from 1965 and was designed by A. Thomas Bradbury.  This building is certainly not everyone's taste.  The monolithic cube rising from the top of the structure is brutal.  I personally find it very interesting and the clean modern lines quite beautiful.

 

In a picture from the 60's that I came across, none of these trees existed making the building seem even more monumental.

Atlanta, Georgia

I've been out taking pictures the last few days since the weather has been so beautiful and as a result haven't posted anything.  Here's a quick one for today.  This is a night shot of downtown Atlanta taken in May 2007 from my hotel room on the 33rd floor of the Mariott Marquis.  On the left of the picture is the Bank of America building which I believe is the tallest in Atlanta.

Dinah Shore Residence - Palm Springs, California

432 West Hermosa Place - Architect Donald Wexler's 7000 square foot modern masterpiece was built for Dinah Shore in 1963-1964.  While I was only able to get a shot of the front, you can see some great photos of the interior here.  Just click on the photographs tab and scroll through the pictures.  The street side of the house is brick but the rear of the house is all glass offering beautiful views of the San Jacinto mountains.  The house is on the market for just under $6 million.

Florida Southern College Admissions Building - Lakeland, Florida

Lake Hollingsworth Drive - From what I could gather based on information on the Florida Southern College website, this building is used for Admissions.  Check out the view from inside through the front windows towards the lake.  I would assume that it was originally a residence.  I was unable to find the year it was built.

Of course, Florida Southern College is best known for its collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings which I still need to post at some point.
